The American Educational lung apparatus is for studying relaxation and contraction of human lungs. The apparatus has a half gallon, plastic bell jar with an open top and a rubber sheet for representing the chest cavity and diaphragm, and is available with one or two balloons attached to a Y connector for simulating the lungs. Lung movement is demonstrated by pulling the diaphragm downward to lower atmospheric pressure inside the chamber, which causes the balloons to expand; the balloons deflate when the diaphragm is released. The apparatus includes a lesson plan for instructional use. The product measures 8-1/4 x 8-1/4 x 8-1/4 inches (L x W x H) and weighs 1.3 lb.
